My gymnasia
Education has changed a lot in recent years. Standards have improved and there is a wide choice of secondary educational establishments.
Minsk is the largest educational center with a lot of schools, colleges, gymnasiums and lyceums.
I am lucky to study at Gymnasia №5 of Minsk. It was founded in 1991 and is considered to be one of the best. Our gymnasia offers the best modern facilities for learning. Our teachers develop students’ strengths, talents and skills, encourage excellence in learning and  success in all the pupils do.
From the outside the building of the gymnasium does not differ from other schools. It is a 3-storey building in one of the modern districts of Minsk. It seems to me that I know the inside of the school building in full detail. So I think that I can show you our school with my eyes closed.
The gymnasium is entered from a large porch. When you come into the school, you can see a cloakroom where we leave our coats before going into the classrooms.
The ground floor houses mainly the classrooms for junior pupils. There is also a canteen, a medical office, two gyms and a small hall for dancing there
Our gyms are used for doing different sports and activities with all the equipment we need. Tennis, basketball, volleyball can be played at any time of the day, light or dark, as well as in any weather. All pupils and teachers can work out in a small gym in the basement, which is fully equipped with exercise machines. We also have a stadium with a football pitch and a basketball court outside.
The canteen is the place, which is the most popular with the pupils during the breaks. Pupils come there both in groups to have their regular hot meals or individually just because they feel like having a cup of tea at the moment. The canteen can seat about 150 pupils.
If we go upstairs, we will find classrooms and laboratories on the first and on the second floors. Our gymnasia has three laboratories for experiments and projects in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Each laboratory has all the necessary equipment, computers and instruments to achieve any school project aim. Moreover, there are different kinds of diagrams, schemes and portraits of well-known scientists there on the walls.
The headmaster’s office, the teachers’ room and the library are on the first floor. Our library has thousands of dictionaries and encyclopedias, reference books, newspapers and magazines, which we use for our projects and self-study. Here you can do your homework, or relax reading a book.
As to the assembly hall, it is the largest room in the school building. We have pupil and parent meetings, ceremonies and performances there.
At Gymnazia №5 we have dozens of after-school activities to meet the interests of each pupil. Our clubs offer everyone great opportunities to develop new skills. We also have all kinds of school events to challenge everyone’s talents and skills. We often arrange parties, Olympiads, school subjects weeks and organize excursions and school trips for those who like to travel and visit the monuments and historical places. It is great fun when we travel for several days.
Our gymnasia is considered one of the best in Minsk in success in many subjects. Our students achieve school programme standards and the best academic results. We are lucky to have such professional, experienced and enthusiastic teachers. They create a unique atmosphere of excellence and independence in which there is no chance we, pupils don’t succeed.  The motto of our gymnasia is “Sic itur ad astra”, and we are famous for our traditions of success, honesty and friendliness. Respect for each other is our golden rule.
